On August 31, 2023, basketball Hall of Famer Dikembe Mutombo bid adieu to his New York City condominium. However, after patiently awaiting a buyer for much of the year, it appears he did not achieve the victorious outcome he had hoped for.

 

Back in February, Mutombo listed his three-bedroom unit on the market with an initial price tag of $4 million. Over the course of April, he gradually reduced the asking price, ultimately settling at $3,495,000. Regrettably, the property ultimately sold for $3.2 million.

This transaction represents a significant financial setback for the iconic basketball legend, who initially acquired the Upper West Side residence in 2013 for $4,950,000.

In May, Dikembe Mutombo also placed his 13,290-square-foot Atlanta mansion on the market for $6.8 million, although as of now, no buyers have come forward.

At the age of 57, Mutombo’s illustrious basketball career includes eight NBA All-Star selections, four Defensive Player of the Year awards, and his renowned trademark finger wag. Following his retirement from professional basketball, he dedicated himself to humanitarian efforts in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In 2022, he disclosed that he was undergoing treatment for a brain tumor, with no subsequent updates on his condition.
